Kalena Handmade began in 2019 on a corner of a balcony in Da Lat. Today it is a small workshop with 14 artisans and more than 8,000 bags sent out into the world.
Back then I only wanted a bag unlike anyone else’s. I learned to crochet from videos and ruined more than a dozen attempts before I made my first flower.
Then friends asked to buy one, then friends of friends. That is how Kalena Handmade grew: slowly, one stitch at a time, making only the bags I would carry myself.

Each bag is knit by one artisan from start to finish, and she signs the hang tag.
Natural cotton yarn and linen. Fabric scraps are reborn in the Patchwork line.
Our artisans work from home and are paid by the hour, above the market rate.

Each bag passes through four pairs of hands: choosing the yarn, crocheting the body, knitting the flowers and wrapping the gift.
weekend workshop
